I am a first generation U.S. citizen and a Southern California native. I spent a good deal of my early childhood in Mexico and was educated in the United States, earning my high school diploma from Marian Catholic High School. I then went on to earn my B.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University and my Doctorate in Law from the University of San Diego School of Law.
Having lived on both sides of the San Diego / Tijuana, I am not only bilingual, I’m bi-cultural. My experience has given me a unique perspective and understanding of the fears and concerns that you may have while going through the complex and intimidating immigration process. In all my years in San Diego, I know firsthand just how important of a role immigration plays in Southern California and the entire country. In fact, immigration was an important part of my life before I even became an immigration attorney.
While still in school I was chosen as an intern with the San Diego Public Defender’s office and the Federal Defenders of San Diego. This is where I found my calling. By combining my passion for immigration and my experience defending private citizens, the foundation of my career as an immigration lawyer was in place early.
Upon graduation, I quickly set up my own private practice in San Diego (Law Office of Edward Orendain) and have made immigration law the central focus of my career. Over the years, I have earned a reputation as a top lawyer in the field and a dedicated advocate for my clients. Whether I’m representing a client with the immigration service or before the immigration court, I give each and every case the attention it deserves.
In addition to my legal work, I also believe in giving back to the community. To date, I have spoken at various community and church forums on immigration and have appeared as a guest on several television programs on the local and national level. I have been interviewed for newspapers, documentaries, television, and radio programs to discuss this very important topic.
I continue to be a guest of a weekly Spanish-speaking radio program to discuss immigration issues and answer caller questions. I am dedicated to serving the under-represented communities through civic involvement and service.
I am currently on the Board of Directors with the Border Angels, where I and founder Enrique Morones started a FREE immigration clinic providing FREE immigration consultations to the public on a weekly basis. I have also volunteered in the LGTBQ community for many years and have donated my time at Christie’s Place and the San Diego LGBT Community Center, among others. I also have the privilege and distinction of being a member of the Latino Advisory Board of the San Diego Union Tribune.
Over my career, I have represented clients before the Immigration Courts in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, El Centro, Imperial, and Lancaster, California, as well as Immigration Courts in Arizona, Texas, and Washington state. I am admitted to practice in the U.S. Southern, Central, and Northern Districts of California as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
